What Are the Benefits of an Owens Corning Shingles Warranty?

The process of getting a new roof can involve a lot of stressful decisions. This includes what roofing materials you will use. Shingles are one of the most durable and aesthetically-pleasing options. Even the most durable materials, however, aren’t completely immune to problems. That’s why we recommend an extended warranty from the manufacturer in addition to the contractor’s workmanship warranty.

The different warranty options are something you’ll have to look into closely. The Owens Corning shingles warranty is known to be one of the best roofing warranties you can find. But what are some of the advantages you can expect? Unfortunately, some people can be confused by warranties or misunderstand key information. That’s where we come in to help. Read on below to find out more information about the Owens Corning shingles warranty. When it comes to your roof, the more informed you are the better.

Manufacturer Guarantee

To start, an overall benefit of roofing warranties is that they get the manufacturer to be involved in the installation of your new roof. Warranties are a way of ensuring their product will be effective, and that if it isn’t, you won’t be hung out to dry.

Owens Corning is also very confident about the quality and durability of their shingles. Your roof is a major investment, so you already want to go with a durable roofing material option. But mistakes can always happen. So you also want to have protection in case something goes wrong. That’s one of the overall benefits of the Owens Corning shingles warranty.

The Owens Corning shingles warranty covers any problem with your shingles that happened because of the way they were made during the manufacturing process. These are otherwise known as and, commonly referred to as, manufacturing defects. Manufacturing defects can negatively impact the shingles’ ability to protect your roof and can even lead to leaks. The shingles warranty can provide repairs or even replacement if there’s a problem with the shingles that’s caused by product failure. The warranty doesn’t cover any defects that occur because of improper installation. You’ll need a separate workmanship warranty for that.

Lifetime Warranty

Owens Corning shingles warranty will give you limited lifetime warranty coverage. This means that, as a single-family homeowner, you’ll be protected by the warranty for as long as you own your home. It’s also another indication that Owens Corning stands by the quality of their shingles.

TRU PROtection Period

The Owens Corning shingles warranty has a TRU PROtection Period. The period begins right after installation and lasts through the first 10 years. Under this period, you’ll be compensated for the cost to repair, replace, or recover the defective shingles. What’s covered depends on what Owens Corning decides is the way to go. If Owens Corning decides to replace the shingles, the replacement shingles and the labor specifically involved to replace them will be covered. If they decide to repair or recover, you’ll receive compensation for the labor that’s directly needed for repairing and recovering the shingles. The exact compensation you receive will also have to be determined by Owens Corning.

Under this 10-year TRU PROtection Period, your warranty won’t be prorated. In some other companies’ warranties, the coverage will already be prorated to 60 percent by the first 10 years.

Once the 10 years under the TRU PROtection Period are over, the prorated period begins. The compensation is now at 80 percent and will go down 2 percent every year until the 40th year. After year 41, the compensation would be at 20 percent.

Blow Off Coverage and StreakGuard Algae Resistance

This TRU PROtection Period doesn’t apply to the coverage of damage to shingles caused by wind or algae. These are known as Blow Off Coverage and StreakGuard Algae Resistance.

Blow Off Coverage is for the first 15 years after installation. This means that your replacement shingles will be covered if your shingles blow off or are damaged by wind.

StreakGuard Algae Resistance is provided for the first 10 years. This is coverage for the brown-black stain that can appear on your roof and that is caused by algae.

Simple Claims

Owens Corning makes their warranties easier and less confusing to manage. They’ll provide easy-to-follow steps for when you want to register, transfer, or process a no-hassle claim. To register your warranty, you can conveniently just click a link on Owens Corning’s website.

Warranty Is Transferable

What if you’re selling your home to a new homeowner? Not all warranties are transferable, but luckily, Owens Corning warranties are, so don’t fret. There will be an outline of the process included in the warranty documents. Just keep in mind that the company will need to be notified of the transfer, usually within 60 days.

No Extra Requirements

Unlike some warranties, the Owens Corning standard shingles warranty doesn’t have extra requirements. This means you don’t need to have additional components, such as underlayment or vents.

If you really want to take advantage of the warranty’s benefits, make sure to take good care of your shingles. Also, keep an eye on the state of your roof. For instance, if you pay close attention and think you see the beginnings of a leak, call your roofer to inspect. This will allow you to file a claim right away. And, again, Owens Corning makes filing claims simple and quick. When it comes to something as essential as your roof, the earlier the better.
