TRU PROtection Period
The Owens Corning shingles warranty has a TRU PROtection Period. The period begins right after installation and lasts through the first 10 years. If Owens Corning decides to replace the shingles, the replacement shingles and the labor specifically involved to replace them will be covered. Under this 10-year TRU PROtection Period, your warranty won’t be prorated. In some other companies’ warranties, the coverage will already be prorated to 60 percent by the first 10 years.
Once the 10 years under the TRU PROtection Period are over, the prorated period begins. The compensation is now at 80 percent and will go down 2 percent every year until the 40th year. After year 41, the compensation would be at 20 percent.
Blow Off Coverage and StreakGuard Algae Resistance
This TRU PROtection Period doesn’t apply to the coverage of damage to shingles caused by wind or algae. These are known as Blow Off Coverage and StreakGuard Algae Resistance.
Blow Off Coverage is for the first 15 years after installation. This means that your replacement shingles will be covered if your shingles blow off or are damaged by wind.
StreakGuard Algae Resistance is provided for the first 10 years. This is coverage for the brown-black stain that can appear on your roof and that is caused by algae.
