Protecting Your Tenant’s Valuables During Re-roofing

Re-roofing apartment buildings play a major role in a building owner and manager’s budget, time and relationships with tenants. Once the decision has been made to re-roof, it then becomes the building managers responsibility to inform and educate their residents on how to make the best of the roofing experience.

At Interstate, we pride ourselves on being one of the best in the industry with regards to protection of property, but precautions are necessary. So in order to limit such occurrences and assure a smooth and effective job, we provide a basic advice list to our customers. We recommend that building managers distribute this same list to your tenants.

It is well known that a happy tenant makes for a happy building manager. It is our hope that this list will make for many happy tenants after your next re-roofing project.

  1. Move all potted or hanging plants inside.
  2. Remove all damageable items from the deck area.
  3. Move all cars, boats or other vehicles away from the roofing area so they will not be damaged by falling debris.
  4. Inside remove glass shades from all swag and hanging lamps.
  5. Remove all pictures from the walls and fragile items from the shelves.
  6. Dust will be prevalent so cover any electronics that may be susceptible to dust.
  7. Noise is a factor. If this is an inconvenience, it is advisable not to be present during the time of work.
A qualified, quality roofing contractor will make every effort to make the roofing experience positive for both the manager and the tenants. Any questions or concerns should be discussed immediately in order to clarify the situation. Good communication between the manager and roofing crew is key to providing a positive experience for tenants, owners and the manager.
